Chicago Pizza Tours founder Jonathan Porter joined the WGN Morning News team for a live segment that had the studio smelling like a pizzeria by 7 a.m. What started as a conversation about what makes Chicago the greatest pizza city in America quickly turned into a hands-on dough-tossing demonstration that left the anchors covered in flour and the audience cheering.
During the segment, Jonathan walked viewers through the different pizza styles featured on Chicago Pizza Tours, from the deep dish that put the city on the map to the tavern-style thin crust that locals have been eating for decades. He also touched on the newer styles gaining traction in neighborhoods like Bucktown and Wicker Park, including Neapolitan wood-fired pies and Detroit-style pans with caramelized cheese edges.
"People fly in from all over the country thinking Chicago pizza means one thing," Jonathan told the hosts. "We take them to five or six spots in three hours and by the end, they realize this city has more pizza diversity than anywhere else in America."
The appearance is part of Chicago Pizza Tours' spring push, with public tours now running six days a week and a new Bucktown Pizza Crawl added to the weekly lineup. If you missed the live broadcast, you can watch the full segment below.
